Responsibilities
The Sr Materials Development Engineer will be mainly responsible for leading material development projects related to low-smoke halogen-free (LSOH compounds) and Rubber compounds.
Compound Development
-
Collaborate with Sales and R&D Product Development teams to understand new material opportunities and requirements

Lead projects to develop and test new compounds to support cable product development projects

Identify and pursue opportunities to improve the cost and environmental impact of both new and existing materials
-
Own and maintain formulations for compounds produced in Emmen, and support processing, quality, or troubleshooting projects for the Emmen plant or other internal customers

Together with suppliers and the global R&D Materials teams, identify and test new material technologies that can be applied to compounds to improve cost, performance, or environmental impact

Lead projects to qualify new suppliers of raw materials, ensuring that single-sources materials or significant supply chain risks are addressed
Additional Responsibilities

Through daily activities, maintain and improve high safety standards and act as an example and advocate for safe practices in the lab and production facilities

Lead cross-functional project teams, and clearly communicate progress, challenges, impact, and timing of all projects to relevant stakeholders

Report regularly on key metrics for compound development, including environmental impact, cost, and new product implementation

Work closely with the R&D lab team to prioritize and conduct testing programs, ensuring that testing is done with respect to larger development goals and timelines

Work closely with compound and cable processing teams to understand and support process development needs

Support other daily activities, including safety and 6S tasks and other plant or lab management initiatives
Qualifications
-
Bachelor’s degree or higher in engineering or hard science discipline, materials-related field preferred (Chemical, Materials, Polymer Engineering, Chemistry, etc.)

·Experience in wire and cable material development or compounding preferred
-
English language proficiency required; Dutch language or willingness to learn preferred
-
Project leadership experience required, preference for new product and/or materials development projects

Basic computer proficiency required (Microsoft Office, Outlook)

Additional computer skills preferred (VBA or other programming language, SAP, Access, SharePoint)
-
Occasional travel, mostly within the Netherlands may be required
